Curtas 2022: 50 years celebrating the fantastic genre

The oldest film festival in Galicia will celebrate its half century of existence by traveling back in time and celebrating its 50th edition from October 21 to 30, 2022

Since Marty McFly traveled to October 21, 2015 in the second installment of “Back to the Future”, that day he has become the chosen one to celebrate this iconic saga throughout the world. Curtas Festival do Imaxinario will celebrate its 50th edition from October 21 to 30, 2022. Coincidence? Maybe yes, maybe not. But the truth is that we couldn’t let the occasion pass and for this reason the festival’s leitmotif will be time travel, with the “Back to the Future” saga, directed by Robert Zemeckis, as the central axis of a journey through the past 50 years of fantastic cinema.

The poster, the work for the second consecutive year of the Argentine artist Flavio Greco, presents the celebration of these fifty years with a large selection of cinematographic robots and androids, gathered in the surroundings of the Vista Alegre Convent in Vilagarcía de Arousa, and as the center of the celebration Maria from “Metropolis” and Ava from “Ex Machina” arriving at the celebration in a Delorean. “The artificial beings of audiovisual history gather for the 50th anniversary of Curtas, Festival do Imaxinario” comments Flavio, “to remind us that nothing makes us more human than learning from experiences, empathizing with the other and, why not, getting together to celebrate. Let’s allow ourselves for a while to imitate them.”

CELEBRATING FANTASTIC FILM

As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Festival do Imaxinario, various titles will be screened, among which the screening of “Nosferatu” stands out on the occasion of its centenary and which will be set to live music by the Caspervek quintet, which is traditionally present at the festival to make us vibrate with their compositions.

To close the festival, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario will screen one of the most representative titles of fantastic musicals, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, which will feature the participation of the Madrid company Dramakuin, who with the film as a backdrop, the actors , characterized as the characters, recreate the musical numbers in front of the screen and with the participation of the public, transforming the show into a great party.

EXHIBITION TO THE FUTURE

The exhibitions at Curtas Festival do Imaxinario are one of the great attractions of the festival. And this year, with the leitmotif of the festival, we could not fail to present one of the largest collections of the saga in Europe and the largest in Spain.

A large collection, which includes more than 400 objects, character clothing, merchandising, autographs, “screen accurate” props (identical to those seen on screen) and of course, some original pieces from the saga, as well as merchandising and rarities.

In addition, Pedro Torromé, founder of Back to the Future SPAIN, the largest fan community in Spain of the saga, will present us his Masterclass “This is very strong Doc”, where in an hour and a half, he will delve into the curiosities of the famous trilogy, which also includes a contest with gifts.

Pedro is also the ambassador in Spain of Team Fox, the foundation against Parkinson’s created by Michael J. Fox and, in turn, is also a member of the International 88mph Association, which has delegations in France, Japan, Argentina and Spain. With these actions, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario will collaborate with Team Fox in the fight against this neurodegenerative disorder that affects the nervous system in a chronic and progressive way.
