The tentacles of H.P. Lovecraft’s creation are mixed with Galician tradition and Arousan history in the poster for the Curtas Festival do Imaxinario in Vilagarcía de Arousa.
The poster made by the Argentine artist Flavio Greco Paglia celebrates the work of the writer from Providence, and commemorates the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the English fleet in Vilagarcía. “An ocean separates Providence from Villagarcía de Arosa, but the depths sometimes also unite” comments Flavio. “Lovecraft and Curtas meet this year and the great Cthulhu is the perfect link. We can only hope that he doesn’t get too upset with the humans when he discovers the Galician octopus. The table is set, we’ll see who will be the main dish.”
For his part, Luis Rosales, director of the festival, comments: “Lovecraft’s imagery comes to life in Galicia. Our coasts and landscapes, which have already been the setting for adaptations of his work, feel perfectly synchronised with his stories. So it is perfectly natural to celebrate our history, as well as our most ancient traditions and customs, providing them with a halo of Lovecraftian cosmic horror.”
With the support of the Vilagarcía de Arousa City Council and the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario will be held from 25 October to 2 November in Vilagarcía de Arousa to offer a selection of the best international fantasy.
