Tomás Hijo‘s graphic work is his personal tribute to the books and films that have always moved him and can be seen in the exhibition “Las Rayas del Dragón” (The Dragon’s Stripes). This exhibition showcases his work, ranging from the worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings) to Guillermo del Toro. The works are created using the linoleum engraving technique, which consists of carving a plate of linoleum, inking the highlighted areas with a roller, and pressing the inked plate onto paper. Most of them are subsequently illuminated with watercolor.
Tomás Hijo was born in Salamanca in 1974. He has illustrated around 100 books for publishers in various countries. He has also written several books, always related to legends and folklore. He has also contributed his illustrations to film projects (such as Nightmare Alley, 2021), television series, and video games. His dedication to creating tarot decks is notable: Tarot del Toro (2020, in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro), The Lord of the Rings Tarot (2022), and The Dark Crystal Tarot (2023), among others. His primary creative medium is printmaking, and his graphic work is part of private collections around the world.
Tomás Hijo will receive the Curtas 2025 honorary award at the opening of the Imaxinario Festival on October 24.
Curtas Festival do Imaxinario has the institutional support of the Concello de Vilagarcía de Arousa (City Council), the Deputación de Pontevedra (Provincial Council), and the Xunta de Galicia (Galician Regional Government). It is also sponsored by De Angeles Films, Gadis, and Rei Zentolo.
