To open the 53rd edition of the Curtas Festival do Imaginario, a pioneering silent film was selected, exploring themes such as organ transplants, madness, and obsession. “The Hands of Orlac,” a film notable for its expressionist quality and one of the precursors of modern horror cinema, was directed in 1925 by Robert Wiene and masterfully performed by Conrad Veidt. Additionally, to musicalize the story of this famous pianist who loses his hands in an accident and is given the help of a murderer condemned to death, we will feature Jorge Gil Zulueta, a doctor in musicology, pianist, and composer specializing in silent film accompaniment. He regularly collaborates with the Spanish Film Archive at its iconic Doré cinema in Madrid, and the Film Archive of Catalonia. This is an unmissable event that fuses film and music to create something unique.
