In its constant effort to expand the horizons of fantastic and horror cinema, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario has announced today the signing of a collaboration agreement with Xibalbá – Latin American Horror Film Festival, based in Guatemala.

This strategic alliance aims primarily at strengthening cultural ties between Spain and Latin America, facilitating the circulation of genre works and fostering new audiences for filmmakers from both regions.

An exchange of talent and vision

The central axis of this union is the “Galicia Imaxinaria” program, an initiative promoted by the organization to export Galician talent beyond our borders. Thanks to this pact, a careful selection of Galician short films will be part of the Guatemalan festival’s programming, offering a privileged window into the fantastic produced in Galicia.

For its part, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario commits to receiving and screening a selection of the most outstanding proposals from Xibalbá – Latin American Horror Film Festival. This synergy will allow the Arousa audience to enjoy key pieces of Latin American horror, reaffirming the festival’s position as an indispensable meeting point for international genre cinema.

A global network of fantastic cinema

With this new addition, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario continues to consolidate its international network, which already has strategic alliances in ten countries: the Philippines, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Germany, Panama, and Chile. This broad international reach reaffirms the festival’s commitment to reciprocal cultural exchange and the promotion of horror cinema on a global scale.

Towards the future of the genre

Luis M. Rosales, director of Curtas Festival do Imaxinario, highlights that these types of agreements are fundamental for the professionalization and visibility of the sector: “Joining forces with a festival like Xibalbá allows us to continue building that cultural bridge we have always sought.
