CURTAS MUTANTES 2026
A DIRECT BRIDGE TO THE INDUSTRY FOR EMERGING TALENT
How to make the leap from script to screen without dying in the attempt? That is the question many creators ask themselves when starting out, and the one that Curtas Festival do Imaxinario and Producciones Mutantes aim to answer with the launch of CURTAS MUTANTES 2026. This initiative is not a typical screenwriting contest; it is a project accelerator designed for emerging talent to make their cinema debut in style.
Unlike other grants or cash prizes that leave the author alone with the logistics, Curtas Mutantes offers a real filming structure. This summer in Vilagarcía de Arousa, the winner will shoot their piece with top-tier technical equipment (professional camera, sound, and lighting), with the support of an established production company behind every decision. Please note that this call for entries is only open to residents of Spain.
MENTORSHIP: THE HEART OF THE PROJECT
The real value of this competition lies in those who accompany the winner. Having the insight of Alberto Marini (Mientras Duermes, REC) on the script, or the expertise in staging of Miguel Ángel Vivas (Extinction, Secuestrados), places this experience halfway between industrial production and a personalized masterclass. They are joined by Gero Costas in post-production and the festival director himself, Luis M. Rosales, to design the distribution strategy.

THE ROAD TO THE SCREEN
The selection will not be easy. After an initial screening by the festival team, the ten finalist projects will face the verdict of a high-profile jury composed of director Olga Osorio (¡Salta!), director and producer Raúl Cerezo (Viejos), and critic and screenwriter Javier Trigales (El semblante).
The ultimate goal is to ensure the piece doesn’t end up forgotten in a drawer. The prize includes the design of the official poster and a Festhome Annual Pass, making it easier for the short film to circulate through international festivals without the financial burden usually imposed by submission fees. The cycle will close where everything begins: with an official premiere at the 54th edition of Curtas Festival do Imaxinario, sharing the screen with the year’s major productions.
