“The Severing” is a psychological horror film about Eliza, a daughter emotionally abused by her stepfather, Roy, and her mother, Claire, throughout her childhood. As she struggles to cope with the trauma, Eliza develops a psychotic depression that worsens over time, causing her to imagine a terrifying entity which is the personification of her depression. This entity forces Eliza to confront someone she loves, unraveling the emotional bond between mother and daughter in a terrifying way.
